What's with all the snarky responses here?!

A husband and wife have a busy life. There could be kids, a dog, and fussy neighbors in the mix. They want to get away from it all and relax together. No distractions. Just them. Why wouldn't they want to watch a movie? Snuggle up, turn on the tube, and just relax....

Exactly. It's not as though all we did was sit in the hotel room all weekend. Even with four kids, making time for "other" activities is not an issue for us at all. It just seemed to be the easiest way to have my movie library (without risking "technology" issues with the TV in room) and the added bonus of having my primary computer at my disposal. Also, the wifi in the room was incredibly slow so simply bringing my ATV was not an option. We just purchased a movie off of iTunes and let it download during the day while we were out and it was ready to go when got back at night.

I fully realize it seems ludicrous (the wife understood, and she's nearly as big of a Mac geek as I am anyway) and isn't feasible for everyone, but it worked out great and wanted to share the experience. I seem to have hit a nerve!

no nerve here. to each his own. with kids, i lug around enough portable stuff including my own stuff. i couldn't imagine taking an iMac along.

When my father comes to visit us for a few days he brings his iMac with him. He connects to our WiFi and starts processing all the pictures he took of the kids. It seemed strange at first when he did it the first time but it worked out well. He set himself up near his bed and had a DVD ready for us before he left.
