Thanks Kev, I'll just try to not let that bother me I think, what would you advise a guy who is mostly going to be using the computer for video and image editing?

Over-saturated, backlight isn't topnotch (little bits of bleed), colors are off and hard to calibrate.

Is there a chance you could be being over critical, I thought the iMac displays were among the best available?

Uhm... not really. I own an 27" iMac and do photography and video. It looks beautiful, sure. But, it's not really accurate.

OK thanks, you just made it sound really bad.

What is ideal to do in your situation then for photo and video editing?

I emailed Julianne Kost (The expert at Adobe: you can follow her blog at www.jkost.com where she has posted dozens of brilliant tutorials on using Adobe CS) about what computer/monitor she uses. By the way, her style of photography and post processing is very muted, subtle tones, not very bright - really good pictures. Please see below a copy paste of my question and her response:

Hi Julianne,

I'm a huge fan of yours, follow your blog/s and have watched (and learned much from) many, many of your video tutorials. Thank you!

A quick question - what monitor and computer do you use for processing your images / pictures? I was thinking of moving from PC to a iMac, but read somewhere that Apple Monitors are "oversaturated and do not handle lower brightness levels well". Your style is 'lower brightness', subtle and muted tones - something I love. So, any suggestions or advice?

Re: Conputer & Monitor I use the Apple cinema display. I also use the X-Rite Eye1 for monitor calibration ( so that the monitor is not so bright. I would like to use an Eizo, but they are bit out of my price range.

The 30" ACD are better, still not in the league of Eizo's and such... but it's okay. (i've seen it being calibrated with a camera + software)

Probably many ppl dont know this but calibrated monitors look very yellowish. This has someyhing to do with the blacks and whites and printed ink. Average people might think something is wrong with the monitor but that is how it is supposed to be to get the colors right on paper
