Hi guys, i found a crazy deal on an iMac Pro, less than the middle tier 5K 2019 price...
Problem is the display is hit on the left side, the bezel area shows a hit and on the display is a fairly large crack line going from aprox. top 3rd left side to first 1/4 top left. Not really visible on dark background but on white one is clear.

I'm looking beforehand for options on how to replace the screen, in case i buy it.
Normal QQ01 panels from imac 5K won't fit due to different cabling and webcam layout on the Pro. Can you recommend a good source for Imac display parts?

From what i see, prices range from 500 (some ukrainian store) to 980 usd (ebay US). Didn't try aliexpress though...

What do u say, is it worth splashing for this iMac Pro, even with that single crack, or....?

Can you actually buy a real iMac Pro screen from a non-apple source?

I think I know what you’re talking about on ebay. If it’s just the glass you may attempt to source the glass panel only and try to adhere it back.

To my knowledge, sourcing an iMP display is not something you can do. There are horror stories about trying to get Apple to do it if not covered under Applecare.

Someday, as these get older, people will be parting them out but, till then, not for the faint of heart.

hmm, actually i found a better deal with the local apple certified service :)
less than $800 with genuine apple panel/display, installed by them and 6 mths warranty.
@mrvo no, the glass is fused to the panel, you can't remove/replace it, so it has to be the whole part 661-08897

i am still torn on getting it though...i'll get it mostly for the Vega56 and 1TB SSD, not the Xeon cpu or 32gb ram or cooling. The 8c/16thread Xeon is a beast, but old skylake architecture. Even the new i5 9th gen in the 2019 iMacs are running it extremly close, while the 580X seems to be more compatible with bootcamp and gaming in general than the vega56 on the pro.

Since we're talking about a 60hz panel, both cards will comfortably do 60fps vsync-ed on medium/high settings 1440p, so....

For the price of a new panel install i'll probably get a spare SSUBX 4ch PCIe SSD later on and stick it instead of the 2TB fusion of a new 5k 2019.

Would the Sintech adapter with an EVO970 (not plus) or WD Black NVMe work in the 2019 iMacs?
Do the fusiondrive configurations have 2 SSD ports or just one NVMe and one SATA? This to keep the 128GB native apple ssd in while adding a 2nd NVMe instead of the SATA HDD

Decisions, decisions...

It's "a crazy deal" for good reason.

If you know what's good for you, RUN AWAY FROM IT and look for something else that isn't broken.

Does it work with the broken screen so you can see if anything else is broken, or is it completely dead?

just to clarify any misconceptions :)

You should have posted those pics in post #1.

Can you live with that?
Could you put a piece of black tape over it?

If you can do that, and the price is VERY VERY good, well... it's up to you.

I would not buy a used damaged computer.
But that's just me.

My personal opinion, I would not buy it. Who know's what other internal issues you might come across.
Best to save a little more, and buy the one you want, with Apple Care, etcetera...

yeah, black tape was exactly what i thought of...
price is ~2100 usd.
i'm so 50/50 over this whole thing...

You have to consider that there may be some internal damage they either don't know about or are simply not mentioning. If there is, you're screwed. (buy from the apple education store for a 10% discount)

in the meantime, i got a 5K toptier machine, 2TB fusiondrive and 580X.
the i5 hexa-core is faster than my i7-6700 in the hackintosh machine, GFX about half score of a gtx1070...at least in heaven bench.
i'm going to test it for a while during the free-return period of 30days.

so far so good, but i'm having issues installing windows..opened a thread in Mojave, hopefully it can be addressed.
kinda mad already...brand new machine acting up.
