Hi,

After using iMacs for many years, I'm now considering getting a PC system. All the programs I use are available on PC. I've also gotten more into gaming lately, and a 21:9 monitor and more GPU power is very tempting.

I'm nervous about the difference in screen quality, though. How would a high quality 21:9 IPS gaming monitor like Acer X34P compare colour-wise, with the 2017-2018 retina iMac display during gaming? (Obviously retina is superior when working with text and similar.)

Any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

If this is for fast-paced games, a gaming monitor's better refresh rate and pixel response will far outweigh better color accuracy of an iMac display. I'm using an external 1080p gaming monitor with really awful colors for gaming in bootcamp, and now find using the iMac's display for gaming unbearable even though it looks much nicer.

Well, I already sold the iMac Pro and ordered a PC, so I guess I'll find out. :) I know the X34P will be a step down in colour quality (though hopefully not too much), but there are some very interesting ultrawide monitors coming out later this year.

Thanks for the reply.
