I have a 2018 iMac Pro with 64GB ram that I use for Photoshop and Premiere. I honestly have never been that impressed with the speed of it. How do the new M1 iMacs compare with my Pro model in terms of performance?

Thanks

I used to use a 2018 Mac Mini for Adobe Photoshop (CC).
The new M1 Mini runs circles around the Intel Mini using the same Adobe Creative Cloud which is native now w/ plug ins...
The M1 Mini stays ice cold, fan never spins up and does not lag/throttle like the Intel does.

If you really want speed, use Final Cut Pro X. The UI and workflow is faster than Premiere, and it's 20 times more stable than crashy Premiere.

Or maybe DaVinci Resolve.

I heard a lot about how "great" Premiere was for years. I was an iMovie and later FCPX user during that time. I enrolled in film school 2018-2020 and earned a bachelor's. It was there I first used Premiere and I was _shocked_ at how bad it was. After all those years hearing how great Premiere was, and how the professional world uses it ... couldn't believe how 1990s the UI was and how it would crash 7 times a day.

Final Cut Pro X, man, give it a test drive. Is nice.

I used FCP during versions 7 and 8. When they switched to X I ditched it due to limitations it had at the time and limitations with collaborating with others. I am always reading great things about it and how well it performs, and I really want to give it a try, it is just a time issue with moving over to it. I envision I will eventually switch fully to FCPX, though not sure when...

Do you know if the FCPX is the same as the current Pro Apps bundle ?

I ordered the new M1 iMac with the Pro Apps Bundle for EDU.

Hoping its the best $199 software package spent!

It's the same thing as far as I know. FCPX is FCPX. That's a good deal. I purchased FCPX in 2016 at the non-student price. Then years later I bought Motion, followed by Compressor. So cost me a bit more than $199 but still I consider it a great value.
