Shame to hear of all the faults, im hoping to convince the parents to get a 20" iMac as a family Computer. :S

Wow I couldn't believe my eyes. I started noticing something didn't look right about my screen on bootup, like there was a smudge over a large portion. 2/3 of the screen on the right is noticeably duller and less bright than on the 1/3 of the left. My wife even said it was unacceptable. When I drag a finder window from the right to the left the alternating white and blue lines start off as gray on the right and become bright white on the left.

I am so fed up with Apple products. I love what they make and want to own their products but this is just ridiculous.

I returned 2 Imac (24'' Alu) too before to get a decent one. First one was very dirty and smudged inside the glass with dead pixels. Second one : same thing with fingerprints. Third one, very slight dirt inside but it was acceptable. I'm there too, there is no way I can accept that kind of thing on a 1800$ computer and if they are not able to clean the glass before putting it on the screen or wearing gloves, Apple doesn't deserve our loyalty.

Please help a new Apple/iMac user.....

My warranty expires 10/4/07......

I've noticed how warm the back of my iMac gets, and it frequently powers down. Now the fan is running constantly. I shut the computer down after I use it, which is sometimes only once a week.

I've always had PC's in the past [both at work and at home] and am not familiar with Apple or any frequent problems.

I took the iMac into the store I purchased it from twice last week.

Can you offer some advice?

Thanks.

I am not kidding it took me 6 3G iPhones to get one with a perfect screen. Now I am on my 2nd' 24" iMac in 2 days both with screen issues. The first had some sort of defect in the glass and now this one has either the same thing or a dead pixel, I can't really tell. There is no way I will accept a screen flaw on a $300 phone, you can be sure I won't accept it on an $1800 computer.

I have bought MANY Macs before (including refurbs) and never had so many issues, actually very few. Am I having an extremely unlucky spell or has Apple's quality control gone down the toilet?

Here are my experiences with Apple quality control.

2009 iMac 27": a stuck red pixel in the center of the screen, showed up 16 days after I bought it, which means I can't exchange it for a new one anymore.

2010 MacBook Pro 13": my girlfriend's, the only way I can get the keyboard backlight to turn off is if I shine a flashlight directly at the ambient sensor. Apparently this is a firmware issue, but Apple has yet to release a fix.

iPhone 3GS: microphone sensitivity was poor and everyone had a hard time hearing me during a call, even with their speaker volume all the way up. When I used speakerphone, the microphone would only pick up bits and pieces. Interestingly enough, because I could take it back to Apple, I accidentally dropped it on my desk (about a 10 inch fall), and microphone sensitivity was suddenly normal. Using speakerphone still results in bits and pieces of voice missing, but I didn't feel like not having my iPhone for a week just to fix that.

To be fair though, I've bought many other products from Apple that were flawless, including:

2009 MacBook Pro 13"
2009 iPod shuffle
2009 iPod Nano
iPhone 3G

etc...

Overall, the perfect products still vastly outnumber the problematic ones, but the percentage of defects in Apple products has certainly gone up these past few years.

I currently have three iMacs at the moment for the whole family, not a single issue with any of them. Two of them are the 27", one bought in August 2010 and one Dec 2010.

I am very happy with all three.:D:D

I am on my third iMac this month, first two had to go back for screen issues. There was no problem doing the exchange at the Apple Store, they saw the issues immediately and gave me a replacement both times. This one seems fine after a week, very quiet, unlike the second one I had. No issues with the iPad or 13 MacBook Air that I also use.

Omg

Is Apple this bad, did I do the right thing?
Just spent $1800 on a 27" Imac.
You bet your ass I'm going over it with a fine tooth comb.
When I pay for perfection that is what I want.
I could buy a windows system for $700
and an HD tv with whats left..
You got to be kidding me, If Apple keeps this up they will not be around long.

My iMac 21.5 inch was sent in for repair because it had "ghosty" look "burnt" into the screen, got it back and 2 days later the EXACT same thing started to happen.

Also when I got my iMac (brand new from apple.ca) the RAM wasn't put in correctly and it wouldn't even boot up.

also my slot loading drive broke after using it 2 times so I got that replaced as well..

My first iMac and I have to say its a POS! I paid $1,700 for it, I expect quality stuff.

Got a 21.5" last month. Because the monitor had a noticeable yellow tinge on the right 1/3rd of the screen I sent it for servicing. They returned the computer with a new screen which had the same yellow tinge in the lower right corner. This time I sent the computer back to the company which sold it to me and told them not to return the computer until the repair shop has resolved the problem.

Right now I am told they are going to replace the monitor for the 3rd time because of the same problem.

Honestly, I didn't expect this from Apple. I am utterly disappointed and I dissuaded my friends from buying an iMac.

I returned my keyboard today for another one, the keys are coming off and only being a few weeks old I am not gluing them back on.They gave me a wired keyboard at my request. I am not happy with Apple anyway for the price its not that great of a computer. I still need a new computer after using the imac for a few days, so I guess it looks like a new HP for half the money and I should have googled the IMac problems before I purchased it. Never another rotten Apple.

I wish i'd did more research on the 24in imac, I never would have bought one.

Hi!

I bought a refurbished 24 inch imac from the Apple store back in Dec, 2010 and was wondering why you would never have bought the 24 imac had you done more research on them?

When I read what you said I became a little intrepid about my imac purchase and look forward to your reply pertaining to your 24 inch imac computer.

Thanks in advance for responding to my inquiry! :)
