Did you checked Satechi website? See where Satechi has designed it to fit on the iMac stand? - that is the reason for the use of “only” in their tech specs. Otherwise the USB-C upstream port will work with a variety of hardware.

The easiest way to confirm this is probably contacting Satechi, isn’t it? 🤓 But, as you can see from the product page at Satechi, it will work with a variety of hardware.
