iMac shipping status?

I ordered a new iMac (Wired keyboard) on August 8th from a local Authorized Mac Reseller near my home Whom I have done business with for several years.
I called them an hour ago and asked for status on my order. Sales rep said they have NO word yet from Apple when the 24" 2.8GHz models will be built and shipped. He claims Apple is on hold for for some component for these particular iMacs. He also claimed that he couldn't give me an Apple order number because Apple doesn't supply them one. ??
So, I called Apple, talked to a friendly sympathetic sounding Apple Store Rep. He said Apple is NOT holding up any orders except those that include a wireless keyboard. I asked him if Apple supplies their own customers first, ahead of Authorized Resellers. He replied, "Absolutely NOT! A sale is sale, no matter who makes it. Their should be NO reason why your order has not yet shipped."
However, he also said he couldn't check my order because it wouldn't be under my name and I don't have an Apple order number. He advised me to demand satisfaction from the Reseller store.
I'm thinking about ordering direct from Apple and canceling the order with the store I originally ordered from. I will have lost three weeks if I do this.
What do you all think. 🙁😡😕

Dude I think you are absolutely right. Cancel that order TONIGHT and order from Apple!
That store is jerking you around... He is probably waiting for iMac refurbs to hit the store, buy one of those and then sell it to you as new... lol
Seriously though. You should of had your mac LONG ago!

This is funny. Mine is supposed to ship between tomorrow and Friday. This is the point in ordering a new Apple product that you typically DO start eyeing the order status page several, several times a day.
There is a "Step" program that usually happens when ordering a new Apple Product.
Step 1: You call Apple and you order the product, they send you a web order number, no biggie. The order is placed, now all you have to do is wait.
Step 2: You start going to Youtube and doing searches for the product that you just ordered, so you can see your soon to be product that other people are already enjoying.
step 3: You start visiting the Apple website and watch Steve Jobs SHOW the new product that you just ordered again. This is combined with the beginning phases of checking the order status on a daily basis by this point.
Step 4: You start to watch video's of people on Youtube "unboxing" their Apple product, and you start to picture what you'll do when you recieve it at your house, when it can be YOU unboxing it.
And finally, Step 5: (Usually happens the day before shipping) You check the order status page everytime you get on your computer, and you start to read "Order Status" forums on Apple related websites. This is the step that I'm in right now, waiting for my 2.8 24" iMac with 4 GB's of RAM.
I won't even go into what happens once it ships. But i'll tell you that it involves the Fedex tracking website, and even calling Fedex to get a little extra info of when it might come...
What just me? If it's just me...Then I'm just kidding.

The status of our 20" with the 500 something hard drive, wired kb and mouse with a tail has not changed yet. Ordered the 21st, scheduled to ship the 28th to 30th. One day down, two to go.
Yes, I am checking the status several times a day since Sunday. I feel like such a dufus. At least I am not cleaning off the desk for the new hardware. We still need the old G3 to check order status, and the usual work stuff also.

My iMac just left Anchorage, ordered 16th, shipped 27th, delivery scheduled 30th.
It seems there was a problem with my VESA mount order where the tracking was stuck in Winnipeg since the 24th, called FedEx to see what was going on, they said they didn't know and that my tracking number was a batch number from Apple, they transfered me to Apple (didn't know they do that), Apple says they don't take a chance and send me another one second day shipping which shipped today. An hour after that, the first VESA order status changed and it's on its way too, now it looks like I will get a second VESA mount for free. Someone in Montreal interested in a deal ...
Dumb? I think not! I had not one, but two of these hard to get hold of machines shipping my way and I made my choice...and choices are always good...and smart! 😀

Are the iMac's really hard to get? I saw them in the Apple Store, but didn't ask them if they had any in stock...
They have been here...we have one reseller in town and the closest
Apple store is in Jacksonville and next closest, Atlanta. They've all been out of stock more than in stock-and when they get them in, they go out just as fast. Can't find them in stock hardly anywhere as far as internet resellers go either (at least the 24" ones).

i think every computer i get on i log onto the apple website to look and see if my order has changed at all. Its not suppose to ship till at least the 30th I can dream of it magically being ready tonight😀
