I usually leave my new imac desktop Snow Leopard in sleep mode as i use it almost every day. Most days I just tap on the space bar or click the mouse and it fires up. Some days I find it has shutdown on its own and I need to reboot.

I cannot tell if this is due to power interruptions or a system issue. I do not use any type of surge protector or ups. Only a regular power bar. I know we do occasionally have power interuptions..sould I consider a surge protector of some kind and could this be the problem?

    Thanks
    Aleks

    An answer to your question...

You should get a surge protector. If the power often goes out in your area then, you could damage your PRAM chip. Then, your computer will not be able to sleep by itself.

Another reason your computer would turn off by itself would be that it would be too hot. To prevent it from being damaged, the computer will turn itself off, after it reached a certain temperature.

If the computer was turned off due to power loss then, a message would appear stating that the computer was not shut down properly [I think].

    Regards,
