Same problem here. I have 2 Macs that are less than 1 year old, 1 has the problem (2011 13" MacBook Air i7), the other does not (2011 24" iMac i5). I disabled the "Logout after xx minutes" preference, can't tell if it's working yet because in my case the issue was random, didn't happen every time. But I'm glad it's not just me seeing this problem. So based on the other responses here it doesn't seem to be specific to particular hardware. The only boot/login-time extensions I'm running are Dropbox, X-rite Color Munki, and MenuMeters -- but I'm running all those on both machines.

My personal feeling on this is that the use of auto-logout is problematic in general so I have simply stopped using it until apple addresses the issue.

I'm trying to think of what the purpose of that option is. If you set the screensaver, and require login after screensaver kicks in, why do you need to log the user out? You're still requiring the password to get back in anyway, just as if they were logging back in, and I assume it's faster because you don't need to go through the login loading process when you wake the machine up.

iMAC "sleep problem.

Just to join the club, my iMAC has recently started the same symptoms as others described inn this forum, and at present am also experimenting to ameliorate the situation.

If I discover anything I will let you know.

iMac Sleep Problem Waking - Screen Black & Pixelization

hi all,

Same problem here.. at first my iMac froze and then got the pixel thing. shutting down screensaver moved the problem from Freezing into automatic log-out..

I see some comments off switching off the option of logout after xx time, but in my 10.7.4 that option is not even available?

have read more comments on clean install, but that is a heavy medicine that I do not even want to try..

other comment I received on mac forum is that the iMac could be overheated..and I needed to blow the dust out. But considering my mac being 14 months old and only works it has been doing is playing spotify I am not sure that is the actual cause..

hope some update bug fix will follow soon.

New to The Mac World

I am having the exact same issue with my 2011 MacBook Air. I would think that someone with Apple would have a clue on how to fix this. This is my first Mac and now I am wondering if I should have stayed with the P.C.

iMac Sleep Pixillation

Has anyone had a message screen like an ad, versus a black screen ... I can read, DOMESTICA (runs out of screen), then CIMMERI (runs out of screen) on a blue screen.

I have a brand new Lion iMac, the only thing I had to DL was a Java update and a printer driver (HP), after the migration from a snow leopard machine, which had no such issue !

Problems with screen on wakeup

I have two macs and both have the same problem, I am running Lion 10.7.5 the problem is not related to different sleep times on the display or computer as they move in unison, as a result both are set to the same time.

Please stop comments regarding Anti Virus and clean up utilities as it muddying up this thread. Please stick reply to question only.

I had given up on a solution to the pixelation problem when exiting sleep mode mainly because I installed a weather station and have been running my iMac 24/7. However, I recently ran the ML upgrade from 10.7.5 to 10.8.2 and it appears that the problem has been solved. I held off on the upgrade waiting for the dust to settle a little on ML it seems like a good move now. I've reengaged the sleep mode and let the iMac cycle through the screensaver and sleep modes overnight and it awakes in the morning just fine now. No more pixelated login screen. Life is good again.

Same problem, Lion 10.7.5, mid-2009 MacBook Pro. In Preferences-Energy Saver, I have not stipulated any automatic shutdown. I do have a screen saver that activates after a certain passage of time. Can't imagine there'd be any viruses on my Mac.

Stiil no fix?

Mid 2009 13" MBP. 10.7.5

I was putting it down to the fact my battery needs servicing! so affecting the energy saving mode, but maybe not as some of you experiencing this have much newer macs.

Im also starting to think if its linked to why sometimes my macbook goes to sleep/log out even though I'm airplaying music via my itunes library:confused:

I hope its not a motherboard/graphics card problem, as im now out of warranty:(
