Hello,

I'm wondering what to do about my keyboard and the 2020 iMac. It works just fine but after some time (i.e. maybe the next day after wake up, or a few days later), the keyboard seems to get sluggish and fall behind. I called apple support and they said to plug in the keyboard to keep it connected. Is that the solution or are there other issues or solutions that I should look into? I will say, once I turn off the keyboard and then turn it back on, the responsiveness improves.

Thanks so much :)

Plugging in the keyboard disables the wireless modules and disconnects its Bluetooth connection. This is most certainly not a solution, to keep a wireless keyboard plugged in at all times. I suspect there may be interference at play here, since Bluetooth operates in the same 2.4 GHz spectrum as Wi-Fi, and often interferes with poorly isolated USB cables.

I have had this problem appear once in the two weeks that I have had my 2020 iMac. At the time, I had several large PDF files open and I thought that it might be related to a lack of RAM (I was still on the original 8 GB RAM).

I restarted the iMac and the sluggish keyboard problem went away. I have since upgraded to 16 GB of RAM and the problem has not reappeared.

Interesting. I have 32 GB in there already and really didn't have anything opened? who knows. It's working ok this morning?

My advice and my opinion only:

Get rid of the bluetooth keyboard, and get either a WIRED USB keyboard, or, a wireless keyboard that works with its own radio dongle (such as some of the Logitechs do), rather than bluetooth.

Will work much better.

The nice thing about Apple's current wireless keyboards is that they're technically USB and Wireless, so the USB isn't just for charging. You can plug in the cable whenever you have the problem, and the problem goes away.

I have the same problem from time to time, and my WiFi is definitely too close.

What bugs me is that it seems intermittent.

I'm still having the trouble from time to time. Plugging it in and / or turning it off often helps, but I'm starting to wonder if there are other people with the same problem because I've heard quite a bit about Bluetooth issues with the 2020 M1 models, which likely use the same Bluetooth controller.
