iMac & Soundsticks iii,Audio Port??

Hi all i hope this doesn't sounds to noobish.
Ive just installed my new speakers to my imac but i get no sound from the Optical Audio port.
However they work fine from the Headphone port is this normal???

Yes of course! The "Audio in/optical digital audio in port" is for importing to the machine! Speakers are (like headphones) output components!

Thanks for that bugger means unplugging my speakers everytime i want to use my headphones😡
