So I just upgraded my 2011 iMac’s internal secondary SSD from a 256GB Samsung 840 Pro, to a 500GB Samsung 860 EVO. Is this a good upgrade? I sure appreciate the extra space, and I believe the lack of space on my previous drive was slowing down the performance. Thoughts?

You haven't indicated how much space was left on the old SSD, but if it was almost full then yes that can slow down performance.

Crucial tells us the old 10% rule still applies to SSDs. Yes it was slow because it was overfull.

So over-provisioning doesn’t take care of this then?
