I’ve been using an iMac 5K from late 2015 in conjunction with an Acer ET430K display for a while now and wanted better resolution than my AmazonBasics Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter has to offer, so I bought an Apple Thunderbolt cable hoping to reroute my connection through the display’s Mini DP port, but the iMac won’t detect the display that way. Am I missing some fine-print incompatibility somewhere? The display seems to recognize a connection when the Thunderbolt cable plugs into its Mini DP port, and a recent Genius Bar drop-off returned a clear bill for the Thunderbolt ports’ functionality (and presumably the cable’s, too).
