    Hey guys, first post.

My fans have been really loud lately and that got me worried so I downloaded iStat and my temperatures are as follows

    HD: 48
    CPU: 41
    CPU Heatskin: 42
Airport Card: 43 (But it was at one point 60!)
    Ambient: 24
    GPU: 54
    GPU Diode: 55
    GPU Heatskin: 53.

I have an iMac 2.4 GHz Core 2, couldn't tell you the size of the screen but if thats needed. I'll find out.

Please let me know if I should take this in to the Genuises and see if my fans need replacement, or something the numbers aren't very high right now, but they do tend to get higher, like HD could get up to 50 at times.

    Thanks,
    Juan

Your HD and CPU temps are normal, not sure about the rest though...

these seem more or less consistent with both my 2.66 alu iMac and my Dad's 2.4 alu iMac

Hopefully there's nothing to worry about :)

Those are perfectly normal temps, nothing to worry about. HD is the easiest die with too high temps but 48 is normal (over 55 is too much)

Yes, those temps are comparable to what I get in iMac 2.0.

But the "too much" temp of the HD is, IMO 60+.

WD states in their site that operating temperature is from 5 to 60 Celsius for Caviar Blue series. 55 Celsius isn't dangerous in short run but it'll definitely be harmful in long run and it'll make the HD's life shorter. +60c is IMO dangerous and can cause issues in short run

Well, stock WD drive in my iMac G5 is running at 57-59 degrees and its still working fine after 4 years of use.

    Probably I'm just lucky :D

Anyway, that iMac is not mine anymore - sold it to a friend about 5 months ago and its still works ;)

Who's to say this isn't a very conservative guideline? I doubt the specs they publish are going to be on the bleeding edge, as much as I doubt Apple purposely puts in millions of hard drives that are all destined to fail in 2 years.
