Do you agree that I need a large SSD or would that be investing too much? I found some on Ebay that are smaller for a pretty decent price.

A 480/512GB SSD should serve you well, given the size of the hard drive inside your Mac that you would be replacing...

I wouldn't buy anything of great value from fleaBay....

Most of the time I find Amazon as a good source... not the cheapest, but I always get the stuff I ordered on time.

Really? Safari is the last choice of browser I ever use on my Mac, Chrome, then FF. Safari is too slow to die sudden.

I also try to avoid Safari on my iPad too as I get the page couldn't be loaded message.

I use Safari as my main browser and it is always fast and never dies on me.... there must be something askew with your machine...

It doesn't die on my iMac it is just so much slower than the opposition.

Safari has never performed correctly on my iPad since iOS8 upgrade. There are lots of posts on many forums about this issue.

Shauhncy,

My 2007 iMac was running badly with Yosemite (it was being crippled by long periods of mysterious disc activity). So yesterday I put a Crucial 512GB MX100 SSD in and it's made a big difference and I'm more than happy with the results... delighted in fact. I'm going to upgrade the memory at some point too (4GB -> 6GB)... that should do me for a while longer. So, yes I'd say it's worth upgrading to an ssd but I think you definitely need to upgrade the ram to at least 4GB min.
