OK so I have an imac from 2007.

Only has 3 usb ports.

1 for keyboard which in turn has mouse plugged in.

I prefer wired KB and mouse.

I tried a usb hub (powered) but when plug in my iphone itunes tells me to plug into the imac direct.

Tried another usb hub today, well it just made a fizz sound and lots of smoke.

took 10 mins to get the imac going again.

What hubs to you guys use and will my iphone 6s plus work in it.

my desk in corner so rear not as easy to get to.
That's why I want a hub.

Your iMac is a 2007 model which only has USB 2 capability. That means low power output from the ports which does not provide enough power to charge your iPhone. Works fine for a wired keyboard and mouse and also a printer but not for anything that requires more amperage. Buy a powered USB hub and use it instead. Amazon.com sells numerous powered USB hubs of all varieties.

My phone works in the on board ports.

I cannot use the port in the keyboard as guess not enough power as I get an error message.

Thing is the on board ports are round back and pain to get to.
I got a HDD I want to hook up for time machine, my keyboard (mouse plugged into keyboard) my iphone cable.

Now I'm out of ports for my card reader as use camera quite a bit, thankfully both my printers are wireless.

I might look see if there is a firewire to lightning cable as will free up one port.

Agree on powered hub.

One I plugged in over weekend fizzed and lots of smoke.

was a belkin new old stock.
Got a targus port replicator at home has 5 usbs plus a lan and serial and parallel also headphone and mic.

connects to computer via one usb cable.
Not sure mac will like it though.

designed for 2000/XP/vista.
Yes it is old but never taken from box, been in my spare room for years recently found it.

It is usb 2.0 certified

just thought as it is here might try it.
I have a really good usb hub i used to use but i lost the power supply :(
