Hello,

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but will either or both the new 2019 iMac or the iMac pro support the new Apple 6k monitor when it comes out? I am still trying to decide on a new IMAC or IMAC pro and that is a "future proof" consideration for me as I will likely buy the 6k monitor or another as a 2nd monitor for photography editing and book editing uses. Thanks.

No one can say since the 6K display is just a rumor at this point. But the iMac Pro has 4 Thunderbolt ports on 2 busses while the iMac has 2 Thunderbolt ports on a single bus. Odds are the 6K display will use most of the bandwidth of a single bus, so you're probably going to be better off with an iMac Pro. Or wait to see what Apple announces for the Mac Pro, hopefully at WWDC in June.

I would argue that because the 2019 iMac has a Titan Ridge Thunderbolt 3 controller (supports DP 1.4) and if Apple releases a 6K Cinema Display, you have a better chance of the 2018 Mac mini, 2018 MacBook Pros, 2018 MacBook Air and the 2019 iMac computers supporting the display than the iMac Pro or any other earlier Thunderbolt 3 Macs. Apple may have a trick or two up their sleeve to allow support for 2016-2017 MacBook Pros(Alpine Ridge) and the 2017 iMac (Alpine Ridge), but I wouldn’t bet on it. Just my 2¢.
