    Hi.
Need to get me a new computer for my house.
I am planning on using it mainly for doing some work at home
(i'm a graphic designer) But also for some gaming. I don't reeeeally have the need to do work anywhere else as i've got a monster mac pro at my studio.

    here's the question.
i can't afford a mac pro for my house so that's not an option..
so i've been looking at the iMac 24" 3.06ghz with 4gb ram and it looks amazing, some of my friends have got one and they love it.
but now when the new macbook pro's have come out i'm not sure what to get anymore, obviously the iMac has got an 24" screen which is a plus. But i could also get the macbook pro and buy an extra screen for it..
Im not techy at all so i can't work out which of these computers actually would perform best for doing graphic design work (photoshop, illustrator etc) and some gaming etc, so i would appreciate any advice you guys could give me.

When it comes to the games i'm planning on playing i'm not a super fast fps etc etc at the highest resolution geek, but i would like to be able to play games like call of duty 4, command n conquer etc...

anyway, hope someone could guide me in to the right direction...
    cheers

Well.. the new MacBook Pros have better RAM and the new nVidia 9000 series video cards, integrated and separate. The iMacs have a better processor and more storage space. I'd go with the iMac if I were you. Do you need portability though? Buying a display for the MacBook Pro will be more costly then. There will be new iMacs soon though because they need the upgrade to DDR3 RAM and the new nVidia video cards AND HOPEFULLY QUAD CORE PROCESSING.

Let's take me for example. I needed to get a Mac for home and school, so I needed a laptop then, but if it were for home only, as you say you need, I would have gotten the iMac.

Just bought a refurb 24" yesterday. I was in the same boat as you...

If you go to school, and need to bring a labtop around, go with a macbook or macbook pro!

While it is true that the 9600m GT in the new MBP is a newer generation card than the one in the iMac, the 8800 is still a superior performing card by a significant margin, so GPU performance easily points in favor of the iMac.
