Where on earth did you go to school, was it private?

In the UK there is nowhere near enough money to provide students with a laptop in Year 5 or support students brining in laptops in Year 7. Think of the theft and damage risks.

I go to school at the British school in Colombo a private international school

My advice to OP is this: Get a cheaper laptop now and then use the rest of your money to buy a more updated mid-range MacBook for when you do more intense studies such as GCSEs or A-Levels. You will get more for your money that way.
In Australia...

A yr 8 does not need a fully loaded 15" rMBP. Holy crap.

I'm doing iAS and I am running everything I need with a 13 late 2013 rMBP and before I had a early 2011 cMBP.

Dude seriously don't waste money. Get the midrange model with 8GB RAM 13" if you must.

Maybe look at a refurb retina pro instead of going all out on a brand new one. Either way whatever you choose it will be well overpowered for your use, but will last you a good few years.

So now the question is do I need gtx750m or can I use iris pro with a13inch rMBP or a 13inch MBA with iris graphics imac is now out of the equation completely

----------

Oh I also have a lot of 24megapixel dslr photos so might need 1tb of PCIe flash

*tries not to laugh*

*laughs really hard*

Seriously, even an Intel HD 4000 can play Minecraft at max settings smoothly.

Unless you play stuff like NFS Rivals or BF4, you have absolutely no need for a GT 750M (not GTX, get the parts right).

Sorry but remember I also need to play gta

----------

I also need it to power a Thunderbolt Display which I shall use to games as well

You don't *need* to play GTA.

Go use your time to study for your IGCSE Checkpoint in year 9, and brace yourself for the IGCSE in Year 11.

And brace even more for A-levels.

Yeah but I have about 2 hours free time per day after studying which I use to game

Oh and watch gravity falls

I'd say if you're looking to play games, you'll want a dGPU equipped MBP. Personally if you're looking to game, I'd look for something more cost effective, i.e., a windows laptop.

This.

Except I skipped the *try* part.
I even ran GTA on a mid 2011 mac mini. The entire line-up of MacBooks are actually pretty amazing nowadays ... There's a lot of opportunities to save some nice cash if you ask me while filling those needs.

Actually false, the hd4000 gets 40fps on mine craft. He iris in my laptop gets 100fps. You severely underestimate how intensive Minecraft really is.

OP you are blowing cash needlessly, the iris can handle any gaming you need to do. Are you even listening or us? Or are you trying to justify the 15"? Because if you are then there is. I point in me continuing this discussion.

Nope you underestimate the power Minecraft needs just because of it's graphics right? I suggest you read up about exactly how resource intensive it truly is. The HD 3000 played it at 20fps, hd4000 at 40 and iris the biggest leap at 100fps.

If you want to play so many PC games, get a desktop PC with a real graphics card in it, not some mobile nonsense.

A-levels isn't as bad as I thought it would be. Except AS English. Much more difficult.

K I think Will get a rMBP 13inch with iris pro graphics

By the way does anyone run minecraft with shaders on iris pro

I took further maths because some **** said it could come in useful. Boy, how hard it was. I swear, it was bloody murder.

Maths was a cakewalk, as well as physics.

Chemistry wasn't that easy though.

PS I took the far-harder CIE variant of the A-levels.

I'm not doing Maths or any Science I am so happy.

Maybe I'm getting really old, but your original post made me grin. :)

None of your needs require such a machine (especially that amount of RAM, ouch). For the games you specified and school usage, almost any MacBook will suffice. There are better ways to spend that money than on computer you won't be able to utilize in 20% (except for GPU).

In general, for playing games, you would do really well to buy a PC or preferably build it yourself. I also love Macs but the GPUs are simply underpowered for heavy games. Remember, that if you get top-end iMac, your GPU is still worse than any 200$-250$ GPU on the market and it also has to drive higher resolution display than usual Full HD (27" Macs are 2560x1440).

As much as I hate Windows, you really can't say that versions 7 and 8 are unstable. UI and usability is bad but they won't hang up unless you put bloatware on them or break them yourself on purpose (aka playing with registry). Besides, if you build PC yourself:
1) you learn something new
2) you get OS without bloatware
3) you get better gaming machine

I wish Apple made machine strictly for gaming purposes but this day hasn't come yet.

PS.: Desktop i7 processors benefit literally nothing to gaming except for maybe one title - Crysis 3. The difference between i5 is just Hyper Threading technology which is simply not used in gaming industry.

Hi, somethings may already have been covered above but I got a bit lost reading and so skipped to writing my 2 cents. Anyway, I had an iMac around your age and have just brought a mid 2014 13" base Macbook Pro Retina to go with it now. (I've just gone into my second year of A Levels.)

Anyway, if I was you I'd go for a 13" retina with some decent specs, most importantly storage as it's your sole computer, and a decent external display. With the student discounts you can get and the recent upgrades/price drop of rMBP's you should be able to do this for no more than a similar iMac today.

That's just my 2 cents anyway and it's what I'd do now if I was back in your position. Hope I helped ;)
