I got my new 24" iMac ~2 weeks ago, and it's AMAZING compared to my MB... Except the fact that the computer will randomly wake up or start up in the middle of the night. The first night I had it home, it turned on 7 times! The next night, it did it once and I turned it off. It stayed off. The day after that, I turned it off when I went to bed. At 4 AM I hear "DONG!!!!!!!!" Ugh. I get up, and turn it off, only to have it start up at 5 AM. x_x I spent the next day looking for answers, I turned off wake for ethernet network something, and turned off screen sharing, quit all programs, and turned off the Airport card. Still, at 3 AM, it wakes me up. I turn put my jacket over it so I can get some sleep. I've been fighting it every night. I'm tired of it. Yesterday I reset the SMC and PRAM, and it still woke from sleep. WHAT CAN I DO?! I'm starting to go insane from waking up in the middle of the night. Would my next step be calling AppleCare? Is there anything that someone here can suggest? Thanks in advance.

Your Mac does it's regular maintenance starting at 3am (I think). You can turn off the machine rather than sleeping, but then you will have to do the maintenance manually with something like Onyx.

Also, if it is restarting do the following:
    - go to system preferences
    - energy saver
    - click on schedule
    - check if a schedule is set for waking up the machine.

Yeah, it starts up on it's own in the middle of the night. I've checked there, and there's nothing in the scheduled. I tend to run the maintenance on my own anyway. I usually run everything in IceClean once a week to make sure my mac is running smooth. :) Do you have any more ideas?

Does iceclean have a scheduler? I've never used that app.

No. It's just a "run when you can" app. I'm going to be calling AppleCare on this in a few hours, so I'll let you know what I come up with.

Well, 45 minutes talking with AppleCare, and we THINK it was a bad /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.AutoWake.plist He had me delete it and reboot. I'll let you all know if it wakes up in the middle of the night. (I'll just edit this post if no one else posts.)

EDIT: Worked fine last night. I might have just been too tired, though, since I slept right through my alarm. :p I'll update again tomorrow.
