    Hey guys,

So back around February, I bought myself a 2.66Ghz Core i5 iMac. It was really nice - no tinted screen, all seemed well.

Now in August, almost September, the machine still works alright, but the display has developed some darker blotches in the top-right corner and a couple of the USB ports have stopped functioning correctly (one flat-out doesn't work, the other only works with externally powered USB devices).

I live near Tokyo, and as such have two nearby Apple stores. I actually bought this machine at the Ginza store. This means that I can haul the thing in for servicing (though it's gonna be kinda cumbersome on the train). I should still be under warranty until next February.

My question is, how will they likely treat this case? Will they just swap display panels and motherboard? Is there a possibility that they'll swap machines entirely? If so, is it possible that they might give me the newer i5 model in exchange?

Any personal experiences in the matter would be appreciated.

In my experience with display problems they will replace the display.

I don't know about USB, it could be a connection? Even if it was the logic board it would probably get replaced.

But you can always try and argue your case for a replacement.

    Good luck.

Well I won't push the issue, but if they're like, "Hey, we've got Core i5 iMacs in stock, and repairing your problems is replacing over half the computer anyway, so how about we just cut out the waiting and give you one of these", I'm not gonna argue with them :D

It's up to the rep you are dealing with. Some are nicer and just give you a new one as that saves them from doing the work but usually they will try to repair it first
