iMac WiFi

Ok this may seem like a really stupid question
but umm does a iMac only work with an Apple Airport Thing for WiFi

would my home network like a Wireless N Router
still be able to connect to an iMac and run without problems?

Your iMac will be fine with almost any router, no need to have an Apple router. The Apple one may be better depending on what you need, but almost certainly more expensive.
