    Greetings all.

I just got my new intel based iMac yesterday and I cannot connect to the wireless router in my house. Well, the iMac recognizes the router and network and tries to connect but will not succeed. It was connected once (first turn on) for about 30 seconds and then never did it again.

It is not a signal strength issue, because I sat my Powerbook right next to the iMac and the powerbook gets 4 bars and works fine.

The router is a Linksys. Can anyone offer any advice? Is it a Linksys issue? Would I be better off investing in an Airport Express?

    Always a day away
I use a Linksys router with an iMac with no issues, so it's not a Linksys issue.

Are you using WEP or WPA? Make sure you type in your password correctly, and remember it's case-sensitive.

Check the settings on your router - make sure you're not allowing access only to specific MAC addresses, and make sure if you're using DHCP that you haven't limited the number of clients to something that would prevent your iMac from getting an address.

There's also the off-chance that it's a signal strength issue - how far away (and through how many walls and floors) does the signal have to travel?

And I'm sure you've already tried this, but sometimes just unplugging the router from power and plugging it back in does the trick.

    Good luck!

I don't believe there's a password on the router or security code (we live about half a mile from the nearest house, so I don't think it was deemed necessary).

I know it's not a signal problem because I can place my iMac and G4powerbook side by side and the powerbook works flawlessly.

I'll try the router unplug trick when I get home.

    Reset did not work.

I changed the channel on the router and with 11, it was connected, but the connection would drop. 10 was connected solid for about 20 minutes and then the connection dropped to all computers.
