Hi,

I am a first timer on this forum and I apologize in advance if this post is in the wrong section. I have been using bootcamp running windows 8-10 to play games on my late 2014 imac 5k ( with the radeon r9 m295x) and it was flawless until about 2-3 months ago. I got the frozen red screen with nothing on it (and I have to do the button restart), especially when I am playing Overwatch. It started out happening a few time in a week to now that every hour or less it crashes on me while playing that game. I did some search online and found some posts on the AMD graphic driver being buggy ( and unfortunately I have upgraded mine to the latest as well along with all the windows 10 update which I now regret doing so). I am at the point where I am not sure if I can locate where the problem is anymore.

On window device manager it says the driver version is 15.301.2101 and it is the version offered by AMD on their site http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/bootcamp but then the software asked me to upgrade and I believe I did so as well ( I apologize again for the confusion due to the extreme 'bugginess' of the program). I am positive that the latest version is 16 something and was being installed.

I would really appreciate help and suggestion as the only reason for me to install windows on this imac is solely for gaming.

Thank you for reading.

p.s I didn't see this section until now and again, I am sorry for double post on the other forum.

Firstly, you will not be able to install the latest AMD drivers from their site as the Mac GPU is locked to the latest Bootcamp ones which I think you have.
Having said that, your problem is overcome by going to http://www.bootcampdrivers.com/ where MatP has hacked the latest AMD drivers to work on Macs.
Works really well - especially with DX12 option in many games. Enjoy!
PS. If you like what he's done, a donation to MatP always is appreciated by him!

Hi Imacken,

Really appreciate your info and it really brings me some new hope!
The driver installation with amd installer is still buggy but I finally got it down.
need to test out the result and I will definitely make a donation.

I can't say thanks enough to both of you!

Good to hear, but in what way is it buggy? Works perfectly for me!

The buggy part is when I start doing step 5 on his note, running the setup.exe and my machine has a massive delay on getting it run ( more than a few minutes) and the first time the installation stopped half way but I was able to rerun it after restarting my computer to get it fully installed.

So far no crash for 10 straight hours of gaming! the only downside is that I can no longer use the play tv app to record my game.. but I rather play the game so I am ok with that.

Thanks again.

I have the same card as you and I always test it on my own machine before releasing it.

With regards to recording your game - use ReLive! If you discard your AMD eyefinity settings in the Crimson settings this gets ReLive working with full functionality, though limits your max resolution to 4k only. AMD are working on a fix.
