Sorry for starting a new thread on this but figured it might be useful. I just cut these up from the Apple website and placed them next to each other. Helps give an indication of what to expect. Feel free to move to one of the many threads if it doesn't warrant its own.

This is just for bezel size comparison between all of the watches.

And the S8 and SE next to the Ultra.

Screen size will be vastly more obvious to us S6 and below upgraders than the 45mm S7 crowd.

That's cool, thanks for sharing. Easy to do S8 and Ultra side by side? Curious to see how just those 2 look exactly.

I always thought people knew the mm is Case Size and not screen but I see many are confused. Apple Watch Studio where you pick bands to go with your watch calls it Case Size. I just think the Ultra is a nicer screen design, regardless of size.

Wow people buying the Ultra for the bigger screen are going to be disappointed. Buy it for the the extra sensors/bigger battery/ruggedness but not the bigger screen.
I am most interested in the 2000 nits brightness ... for my aged eyes bright screens are a must to see anything even in ambient lighting.

Perhaps I should see an ophthalmologist instead of buying a new watch.

I’m coming from a S6, and from what I understand, there was a sizable jump since S7. If true, I’ll be happy with it.

I haven’t seen any direct comparisons with the S6 (44) and the Ultra. Has anyone seen that?

I’d like to see that too, as an S6 owner. Based off my green S8 overlay above, I’d say the 44mm footprint would fit in the screen area (with borders) of the Ultra.

Edit: I’m a fool. SE is the same as S6.

I knew it, but I still find myself forgetting that from time to time because when we talk about measurements like that with phones, it's referring to the display size, not the overall phone size. No, not in mm, but the Watch is a much smaller device, so it still seems like it would make sense that it's referring to the screen diagonal.

Going from an S6 to S7 is a nice jump in screen size. You can use the SE area in the original image to compare to the Ultra since the SE has the same screen size as the S6.

Isn’t that the same as the SE comparison?

Well this after 6 days of talking finally clearly shows what we all know. The Ultra screen is imperceptibly larger than the 45 mm Series 8, 1.83%. I love the style and features of the Ultra, but don’t buy it thinking you get a bigger screen. Frankly I think if that screen filled the Watch surface at 49mm it would look worse at that point.

The jump for me from the S6 to S7 was significant, you’ll like it as the visible screen area as we discussed is essentially the same on the Ultra as the S7. I’m going from an S7 to the Ultra so for me it will be the same.

Thanks, all! I’ve never paid attention to the SE, so I wasn’t aware. That looks like quite a big improvement!! Plus, the brightness will help.

I’m actually keeping my S6, and adding the Ultra to my humble watch collection. The Ultra will be my Weekender, mostly, though I may rotate it into a weekday now and then.

sure, I plan on keeping my S7 and using it in circumstances that call for a less bold looking watch, and likely for sleep because it is lower profile. right now the temp feature doesn't really do much for me as a man.
