I was just surprised that others might no longer be using them.

Googling a bit, apparently Apple's royalties, at 30 cents per device, makes up about half their income.

ARM's GPU designs have gotten a lot more popular, and easier to deal with if you are doing an arm SoC and don't want to think very hard. Probably soaked up a lot of the low-end volume.

Looks like Apple is just buying (via job offers) selected staff. And that doesn't have anything to do with the stock price, so that pokes a hole in the claims that Apple is trying to manipulate the stock price to buy the whole company.

Doesn't make it any less brazen that Apple is setting up a GPU research facility just seven miles down the road from Imagination in the UK, obviously so they can poach employees from a company whose IP helped Apple make billions, and which is having problems now that Apple wants to stop paying royalties.

Just one more example of how getting in bed with Apple is no guarantee of a long term relationship.

Imagination's made some nice coin on licensing that IP, as well.
