The biggest downside (other than no backlit keys) is having to live with Tahoe on the Neo.

Do you think Apple has done enough optimization for this device to avoid a terrible "Windows Aero on a Celeron" experience?

Will be fine. Remember the triple-A games that came out with A17 Pro? A18 Pro isn't a game and Liquid Glass runs fine even on old iPhones.

I don't think anyone will buy Neo for gaming, but every user will be affected by the stuttering syrupy animations that Tahoe introduces on almost every click interaction and hover.

My M4 Studio stutters just opening menus sometimes on Tahoe; zero issues on the same machine when I boot Sequoia instead. I have a sneaky suspicion the Neo is less powerful.

Perhaps you haven't explored the hundreds of threads, some with thousands of comments from users with both new and old iPhones who say Liquid Glass runs more like the OG YouTube thumbnail

M1 Max Studio running Sonoma has been killer!

Never a stutter - never a spinning beach ball.

I think I'll leave it at Sonoma until Apple fixes Tahoe....

But then I just ordered a Tahoe Neo so will see....

If you think that's even a possibility, you don't remember how bad that period was...
What? There were a ton of of Celeron-powered devices that ran Aero (terribly). I can't blame you for wanting to forget the Celeron 500 series or Celeron M in the 2007-2009s with little "Vista Capable" and "Vista Premium Ready" stickers. Millions were sold and all of them ran Aero terribly from day one, but they were cheap.

And this relates to the Mac how exactly?
