This should just be the mac studio. Ultra chips are not that power consuming, even the body of Mac mini should be able to handle the heat fine. It has been handling intel chips for years anyways

I bought the 2012 Mac mini…… I upgraded the RAM and I have TWO SSDs which I can upgrade in the future and thanks to OCLP I can run Ventura even though I can’t see any benefit over Monterey.

The new Silicone ( yes, like fake breasts) macs mean I will buy a computer with maximum RAM and minimum SSD and just use external storage.

For me it’s like that and that the way it is…..

Apple Mac Minis should be the size of an AppleTV, and fanless.

In fact, they should be the same product.
If it comes with an Apple TV interface as the old iMacs featured front row, and it included a remote I'm sold. I've got hundreds of gigabytes worth of video content that would be much easier to play from a Mac Mini TV's ssd.

On the other hand, I don't like that it would drive up the cost for people only looking for a streamer considering it would have a computer inside too.

Is it just me or do the majority of conceptual/reimagined etc Apple products just steal design cues from a recent Apple device and apply it?

Case-in-point the iPhone Ultra renders that were essentially just the Watch Ultra design applied to an iPhone.

It seems lazy. But I suppose the same could be said of Apple’s actual design team since it could be argued they used to do exactly that (still do in some cases… hello Mac notch)

While I have zero plans of upgrading my Studio anytime soon I'm really hoping Apple don't ditch it - it's the perfect mix of power and size for what I need, have zero interest in a Mac Pro tower. I get that it's a super niche product and that the new M2 Pro Mini comes close in terms of power - but front IO and good thermals make it hard to beat if you can make use of it.

I really like it.
I don't know why the new Mini wasn't updated design-wise.

If it's not rack-mountable in 1U, that's a huge backwards step for a lot of pro audio/video customers. In fact, any change to the form factor at all would result in new rackmount kits being needed. It's lovely. Please don't change it.

Mac mini dimensions will never be changed in any way that effects their rack mount-ability

Proposed Mac mini redesign, rear.

The M2 Pro Mac mini's rear and selection of ports.

Honestly, the mini's rear looks cooler than the Studio's (though the port arrangement is a bit cleaner on the Studio). Now, just add the 2013 Mac Pro's proximity-illuminated ports…

I think it would make a lot more sense to copy the Apple TV. Remove the USB-A ports, and power it with USB-C which would move the power supply out of the Mac over to a small wall brick. Go fanless a well.

Put a couple USB ports on the front, so you need less of them on the back, allowing it to be even smaller while still having enough ports for most people. Anyone who needs more ports should buy a Mac Studio.

No point in the Mac Studio, if they redesign the Mac mini.....it's a cheap powerful desk top and that's the way it should stay, why fix something that isn't broken?
Yeah, I'm just glad the M2 Pro -equipped Mac Mini has four Thunderbolt/USB-C ports (in this case, Thunderbolt 4), like its' Intel predecessor. But I do miss having an SD card slot built in... oh well, at least I have my Thunderbolt 3 dock for that!

IMHO they should just keep the studio for the enthusiasts out there who want something more powerful than the Mac mini but not expensive as a Mac Pro - either that or provide a Max option in the Mac mini.

Why would they redesign the mini to be even bigger, its already full of air as it is now. I half think they keep the size just so people dont twig that they are basically buying an apple TV at a much higher price. It would be a joke to make the mini larger. It used to fit two 2.5" drives and user changable ram into the same space. Now there is just the PSU and motherboard.
