imap mail times out

    Every few times, since updating to Mavericks, I get an exclamation mark next to my personal imap account in Apple Mail. When I click that I get the popup:

    'Name emailaccount' can not be opened.
    Time-out of connection with the server '' through port 143

    It doesn't happen all the time. Most of the time it works just fine. When I do get such an exclamation mark, I click on the 'receive emails' envelope icon and the mark goes away and my email works fine.

    My iCloud account and two other pop accounts work fine. This issue is only with my one personal imap account.

    What can cause such a time-out message and how could I fix it? I already deleted the account and set it up from the beginning.

    Make sure you having nothing in your Email Inbox. Then open System Preferences->Internet Accounts and find the iMap server you have, write the server settings down and then delete that email account. Quit all the running applications and reboot. Then upon the reboot go back into System Preferences->Internet Accounts and press the + button and re-add you email server settings.
