iPhone IMEI Unlock Sites

I hope someone here can give me some advice on unlocking. I'm traveling to Europe soon and would like to use a pre-paid local SIM in my iPhone 5 while I'm there. For that I realized I need to unlock it from AT&T here in the States. I'm not looking to change carrier in the USA though, so my question is will AT&T know or care if I unlock?
I've had an iPhone since day 1, so I'm still on a grandfathered unlimited data plan. T-Mo coverage is poor in my town, so I'm not looking to leave my US AT&T plan, I just don't want to pay their crazy rates to add international voice, text and data for a two week trip!

Can I unlock and still continue to use the same SIM in the USA?

Yes you can. Once unlocked you can use any GSM SIM in your iPhone. AT&T or otherwise.

So AT&T won't know or care? It won't affect my regular plan?

Now I just need to decide which of these sites to trust / try... <crosses fingers>

The only wrinkle I can see in my plan is that you have to have a SIM from another network to complete the unlock, so I'll have to go and buy a T-Mobile SIM even though I don't plan to use it. I can't wait until I land in Europe to try this whole process... At least all the networks have the iPhone 5 now, so I should be able to get a nano SIM.

Well, I don't know how they do it, but they do.
I went with swiftunlocks.com having bought a SIM without top-up from T-Mobile. I did their basic $1.99 service because I wasn't in a hurry and got the unlock confirmation about 90 minutes later. Restored my phone with the T-Mo SIM and got the "Congratulations your phone is unlocked" screen. Put the AT&T SIM back in and everything seems to be working normally.
The next test will come when I try to put a European SIM in it, but as it links to T-Mo over here, I've no reason to doubt that will work.

One last nagging doubt… Did I just send my IMEI to a phone cloner?

After spending many hours trying to figure out to do this - i took a chance and unlocked my att phone with swiftunlocks - took 5 min and works great.
 
Any word on paying for an IMEI unlock for the AT&T 5s?

I'd like to use my upgrade, keep my contract, and be able to swap out the SIM when I'm traveling internationally.

I haven't had any issues unlocking them.
 
Ok, placed an order with swiftunlocks for my 5S, for $1.99 it is hard to beat (once it works that is)...

It's not hard to beat that price. You just need to know the right "Unlock Suppliers"

You could factory unlock Sprint iPhones about a year ago. Since then, Sprint has changed their unlocking policies. But, you can still factory unlock the Verizon iPhone 4s. Both networks have gsm capabilities in their iPhones. The downside is, they only work internationally. But it's still a good idea to unlock them and sell them overseas.

As far as the newer devices for Verizon (for anyone that doesn't know) they all come factory unlocked.

Hardly practical for most people, nice to for vacations or bizz trips but most people hope to buy a 'cheap' iphone which they can then unlock to use domestically on GSM networks.

The only way you can use those domestically is by using the Xsim/Rsim. I'm not sure of the exact name, but it's similar to the Gevey sim unlock.
 
Hi guys, I tried for an unlock at Swiftunlocks.com

Do I need to put in some non AT&T SIM to complete the unlock process? Or can I just sell my phone as unlocked now? I don't have any other carriers nano SIMs on hand, and my buddy on T-Mobile has a Micro SIM only 🙁
