Curious, well, more nosy. On your iOS devices, do you have your iMessage and FaceTime On or Off?

I currently have mine, off. But, that's mainly because I was testing an Android device. Now I am curious about what others do...

Both off as almost nobody uses these services where I live. Skype for work and whatsapp instead of iMessage

Interesting. I currently just don’t trust WhatsApp (FaceBook), probably why I don’t use it.

If swapping often between iOS and Android, I’m sure WhatsApp is more practical.

I have both on mostly because I like "Handoff" / answering or making phone calls on the MAC with my headphones on

I do wish there was a way to turn the camera off on FaceTime - so I could take FaceTime calls in "Audio only"

Really don't like answering FaceTime with the camera on and not knowing where the camera is pointed - or which camera (Front or Back ) is being used or not being somewhere I want to share my situation on the camera etc.

I would love there to be an "Audio Only" setting for FaceTime where you could have the option to add the camera after answering FaceTime in audio mode if desired.

That's not a bad idea since they give you the option of initiating a Facetime call in audio or video mode. A way around it if you have one is to answer on your Apple Watch. It has to use Facetime Audio.

Here in EU 95% of people uses whatsapp because it was released before imessage and not everybody likes iPhones, also because it's cross-platform. Never had any complains about whatsapp.

Both on and no reason to turn them off. Have Whatsapp as well but only for a couple of group chats as the majority of folk i know and communicate with are on iPhones.

Somewhere near 95% may have whatsapp on their phones and use it to an extent, although many only a small amount, but I very much doubt its used exclusively by that many people with iMessage off and ignored. As above i use it for a couple of group chats but the majority of my messaging is done via iMessage.

I’m curious as to the purpose of an audio-only FaceTime call?
Would it not be the same result as making a “standard” call?
    Is it more secure?

I suppose its useful for folk if they have wifi but not a mobile signal or a very poor one. Some networks dont always allow the Wifi calling option that allows wifi to enhance the poor signal for phone calls etc so you can use audio only facetime to make the call over wifi instead.

The cellular signal at my place is horrible and not everyone has WiFi calling enabled on their phones. Facetime Audio might be a nice alternative.

Both on although only on my iPhone. Almost everyone I regularly talk to has an iPhone and I use both all the time. I do have WhatsApp installed as well but I only use it to talk to our friends in Europe.

It's only ignored because in the EU APPLE is not as dominant as in the US here the marked share is divided between more brands. Apple is about 25% market share (you can check official stats). So people use extensively whatsapp because it's cross platform and was the first free messaging app as nobody uses SMS anymore. Even people who have iPhones use whatsapp instead of iMessage.
    The market is just different.

I'm in the EU and barely use Whatsapp....there was a similar thread that talked about this and the claim that no one uses iMessage in the EU and we all use Whatsapp was pretty much made out to be nonsense. Yes people will use Whatsapp as well but not instead of in the numbers you say.

That's an official stat, actually published in 9to5mac 05 Nov 18, you can see in germany for instance ios market share 16% whereas android 83%, Spain android 92% iOS 7%
I'm not against apple I'm just saying that in EU there are much less people that use imessage mainly because market is more fragmented, thats all.

Would love to see some documentation to that claim. I'm in Denmark and don't know a single person or ever seen anyone here use what's app and when I asked my teenage kids their response was: what's whatapp. Everyone here either use iMessage, text message or fb messenger and the kids use snap chat alot

With your logic the US would be heavily whatapp fanatics as their stat is iOS 34.7% and Android 63% so 63% would with your completely flawed logic be using whatsapp as they dont have iMessage???
Stop presuming because you and your friends all use whatsapp that it is dominent in Europe. Like the other guy said that discussion has been up before and was completely shut down.
If you are going to bring up stats show some stats that back your claim up and not some stat showing how many use ios or Android or other os"s because that has nothing to do with if they use whatsapp. Even if they shut down imessage, sms and fb messenger i can think of 5 other apps to install before I would even install whatsapp.

Imessage and facetime are the primary communication methods with my family. They are on 24x7x365.

Does Android have anything like iMessage built in or does it rely on Whatsapp to do it hence the high number of users on Android compared to iOS?

    Same here.
Since my friends all have iPhones that extends to them too.

Honestly don’t know why anyone would switch off iMessage or FaceTime on the iPhone.

For me, purely for the option of ease to switch back and forth...
