I am having big problems with text messages. When iMessage is used the texts take hours and some days to get.
Is there a way to only use iMessage for the people who don't have phone numbers?
I try texting my wife's phone # but it uses iMessage.
And even when I remove her email from the contacts (I think it may be because I'm using an old message thread) it still uses iMessage.

Anyone else having this problem?

I'm on Rogers Canada iPhone 5 iOS 8.
My wife has the same problems on a 5S iOS 7.

Thanks

Im having trouble understanding the issue. iMessages are taking a long time to deliver? What is it that you want to do? send a text instead?

If you want to send an imessage to an iOS user who doesnt have a phone number, simply type in the apple ID of the person you want to send it to where youd normally type in the phone number.

If you are looking to only send text messages instead of iMessages, you can turn iMessages off in settings.

Sorry to threadjack but what is the purpose of having an email and phone number for iMessage? I'm looking at my settings and my iMessage is allocated to both.

You could text their iPad by email address if they didn't have a phone.

Some people have android phones and an iPad, the iPad won't sync iMessages with the phone number, only the apple ID.

People can send iMessages from iPads, Macs, and iPod Touches if they don't have an iPhone. It would use their email address instead of phone number.

Is this the reason why my phone has two threads to the same friend? One is using his phone number, the other is using his email? I never picked one or the other... Also:

Sometimes I can't send messages (especially group texts) at all. Something is really buggy about messages since the update.

That is the reason you have two threads. It could be your friend that sent the first message - whom ever sends the first message is who pics what its being sent to. Often this also happens if a message is being sent via an apple device (other than the iPhone) and the user hasn't set up the application to send it from the iPhone number rather than the email address.

Wish I was better at putting photos into these posts but here is the deal:

Stan sent a group text to me and Carolyn. I see his messages and hers in that thread. (We all have iphones. All running on ios8, they have 5s phones, I have a 6). When I respond in the group text, it fails. It won't resend or send as a text there. I have another thread from Stan Lastname that is our own texts. A third thread appeared called Stan that has some of the group texts from Carolyn and Stan in it. When I respond to that thread, carolyn gets that message.

WTF?!?!
