Prior to the 7.1 update, even if you cleared out all your texts/iMessages it saved them in the cache and used up memory! Mine was using over 3GB of memory! Now if you clear it out it removes it from the memory! Thank you Apple! 7.1 is a huge improvement! Not to mention the calendar is SO much better now!

Yeah that seems the case - mine is using 5 MB! (I haven't seen anything less than 340 MB on my previous devices even if I clear it)

My sister has almost 4 GB of iMessages on her 4s and she doesn't have enough memory to update her phone. Kind of ironic. If she could update then she would have the extra space! I'm going to have to help her clear stuff off so she can update then put it back on.

She can try using something like PhoneClean to clear up some space, and/or delete some things on the phone (like apps or music) that she can easily put back on again later.

All I know is that my entire family is on iPhones and this allowed them all to free up a lot of memory that was being wasted by old deleted iMessages. Not sure why it wouldn't work in your case.

----------

The app itself takes up about 200 mb so it will never be 0.
