iMessage help

Here's the situation:

My wife just switched back to iPhone from Android. I cancelled my data and minutes plan temporarily since I am on deployment. I have access to wifi and want to iMessage her but it always tries to send her texts (green bubbles). We both deleted all our old messages and I have SMS and related settings off in the messages section of settings.

Anyone have any suggestions? Can't find this problem's solution with a Google search.

Have you tried having her send to you, then reply.
And try using email addresses instead of phone numbers
