Coming back to iPhone after a run with a Note 10+. Setting up my 11 Pro Max went well but when I turn on iMessages in iCloud it will not work. Keeps failing and says disabled. I have 1.3gb if info and it won’t even let me delete it. Is this a known bug right now? Just don’t want to get on a long call with support of its a bug

Can you post a screen of the error? Also, any chance it's related to iMessages activation and not iCloud sync?

I would try all basic troubleshooting then (hard restart, sign out/in to iCloud, beeing charging and on Wi-Fi). If still won't work, then Apple Sup. They'll ask you to do this in any case :)

p.s. Haven't seen anything similar so definitely not a wide-spreaded case.

Turned iCloud iMessage on on my wife’s iPhone 11 and after the upload process she still has 22GB of storage being used on her iPhone for messages. Does it take time to catch up?

I’m not sure you’ll get any space savings on the phone unless you actually delete messages (which would delete them from the cloud as well).

I just did the same thing as you. for me, I signed out of iCloud and yeh turned it back on. The iCloud in message was able to be turned on.

It seems on my phone, but not my wife’s, that pictures in iMessage are stored in the cloud and not on the device. Otherwise I’m not sure how I have so much data in pictures but not iMessage overall.
