iMessage MBP badge clearing issue

So my MBP shows 22 messages on the icon (badge), that I can't seem to clear. Anyone have a similar issue or solution?

Had the same thing this morning. Didn't have time to look into it before I had to leave for work. But my friend, on the other end of iMessage said she just closed the chat conversation and opened a new one to clear the badges.

I've done this with no success. Any other thoughts? I'm thinking of deleting iMessage and reinstalling.
