iMessage not working with Phone Number

My wife keeps trying to imessage me using my phone number and it won't go through. I checked iMessage setting and my email address is the only option listed - my phone number doesn't even show up.

Fix? This is weird

turn on and off iMessage and FaceTime.

I did. I even reset network settings. Nothing.

Started and restarted my phone a few times, turned iMessage on and off a few times... finally fixed. iOS 8 seems to have a lot of bugs!

I am a bit surprised.

This has been happening to me with a friend. Kept getting them from his e-mail. I thought it was him, but no I'm just driving him crazy. Somehow it eventually worked itself out. very annoying.

Happened with iOS 7 installs for some people as well. Just some install/upgrade oddities that happen with some people when a major new version of an OS is involved.

If I am not mistaken, when I first installed Yosemite and iOS 8, my phone number didn't show either. I had to go into my Apple account online and add it. Then, when I went back into FaceTime etc. I had the ability to chose the number.
