I noticed a few times that I will only receive an iMessage on either my iPad or my iPhone, but not on both devices. Most of them time it works fine and comes in on both devices almost at the same time, but it's annoying when it doesnt. Have anyone else tried this and maybe know of a way to fix it?

Make sure your caller ID is set to your email address in iMessage on the iPhone. You'll need to delete and restart any current conversations that are tied to the phone number.

But the problem can occur in the middle of a conversation. I'll get the messages on both devices, then suddenly they will only come in on my iPhone. Then I grab my iPad and continue the conversation, and the following replies will once again come in on my iPad as well (but I will still be missing the messages that only came in on the iPhone).

It's only happened 2 or 3 times I think, but still.. I want it to work all the time :)

Seems pretty hit and miss to me. My wife's iPad 2 & iPhone 4 seem to work perfectly all the time. But me, my iPad 2 and iPhone 4S are inconsistant. I even reloaded my iPad from scratch in an attempt to remedy the misses but it still misses a few messages here and there.

i think this is a pretty widespread problem with iMessage. i have my iphone4 iMessage callerID set as my email account, and it receives iMessages from that same account. My iPad2 is setup using the same email address.

Out of 100 messages I receive on my phone, I probably miss 20 of them on the iPad. It also creates multiple threads for recipients when I send from the devices. Sometimes I will use my phone to send a message, and then 5 minutes later, I will use the phone again, and it will create a different thread for the recipient.

The implementation of iMessage across the iphone and ipad is pretty poor if you ask me. It should not be this difficult/confusing/impossible to get all iMessages to sync across multiple devices. and it should not be creating multiple threads on recipients' devices

Yup, same thing happens to me. Also, links from Google maps don’t come to my iPad, and group messages don’t show up on my iPad either (if someone else starts a group message where I’m included, it doesn’t show up on my iPad only on my iPhone).
I am sure I have all my settings correct (caller id to AppleID, receive at phone number and AppleID, etc.)

What's odd to me is that mine didn't start syncing until I activated the 3G on my iPad. The last few days they don't seem to be coming to my iPad though.

This has happened to me a couple times as well. A few days ago some messages did not show up on my iPad until the next day! That was pretty weird. New feature/new problems. It will get worked out eventually.
