Without a doubt they will there will be iMessage for the Mac, they brought FaceTime to the Mac. They want to tie all these things together.

The big question is:

1) When (I would assume around iOS5/iPhone5 launch)

2) Is this only iMessage to iMessage? Can you sent texts to non-iMessage? Better yet, could you hook up you Mac to your iPhone similar to the bluetooth pairing HP has on the TouchPad and Pre3/Veer. This would be truly amazing if they did that.

Since I got my first iPhone I have been wanted to send texts from my computer (using my phone) I used to be able to do it in windows mobile..

If I'm at my desk fora while and getting texts all the time, why not let me text from my Mac?

iMessage on the mac would kind of help with this issue..

I 100% agree with you, this is a huge oversight on Apples part IMO. They got the weakest BT stack out there...

That is why for the last 6 months or so I was using Google Voice, with some powerful JB app that enable the native messaging app and phone app to route everything through GV. I then installed Growl Voice on my mac and it was pretty amazing.

I switched everything back however now that I am running iOS5 and my wife will soon be using it as well. I felt the benefits iMessage will bring to the table (since 80% of my text is with her anyways) outweigh the above use of GV.

One can dream though...

iMessage is really clean and awesome to us. But iChat would have been better, then we wouldn't need 2 separate apps. iMessage + FaceTime = iChat.

My personal opinion would be they do this:
iChat + iMessage + FaceTime = iMessage for Mac.

I agree

I also thought that we would just get an iChat app on the iPhone for FaceTime + iMessage. It wouldve been much better. And we could also message someone on an iphone, ipod, ipad etc.. via macbook. More people have macbooks than iphones. I think they just did it this way so that it would look like two new different features rather than a two-in-one app. Just my opinion...

Of course there won't be iMessage for Mac. We have iChat. No speed reason to have it. iChat also tells us when they are typing ect. I just find it stupid iChat wasn't simply integrated into iOS. Instead of call it Facetime + iMessage just work with iChat. However, they would have to work with AOL on it. This is probably why they didn't.

I want to see iMessage and FaceTime be released as open standards to all devices regardless of OS for a unified open communication platform that keeps all your messages synchronized on all your devices and works with acquaintances not using Apple.

I would say it's almost guaranteed given how much they've been trying to make the Mac and the iDevices work togher as seamlessly as possible and the fact that they did it with FaceTime.

so 10.7.1 is here, iOS5 is here... no iMessenger in iChat :(

what's the hold up Apple!? why was this omitted?

I would love to have iMessage integrerade into iChat.

I use iChat today for every IM network i am on wich include MobileMe, Facebook, MSN, GTalk and our own private iM-network at work.

From my point of view i would love to not grab my phone when i am at work as soon as i have received a text message and instead answer those iMessages in iChat.

This must happen :D

It would be nice if there was an indicator in iChat that shows the recipient is either on their mac or iphone. So you knwo if you're bombarding htem with texts while they're using their phone hah.

It's almost December

Well it's almost December and no iMessage for OSX yet. I don't get Apple sometimes, would this not be a "no brainer" to develop and just a normal progression. I love everything Apple, but come on this is illogical. I am sitting here at my Mac now and have my iPhone 4S here in front of me and messaging my wife and kids, this having to go back and forth on devices is just sooooo not Apple.

I think the iCloud launch was too big of a bite for them to chew. My guess is they are polishing what is not working really good before launching new features.

I agree 100%, I want iMessage on my Mac so bad. It's pretty amazing what lock in potential that feature has if your spouse/friends/family use iPhones.

Can't a Mac developer just make an unofficial iMessage for Mac—that talks to Apple's servers and pretends to be an iPhone—until Apple releases its own solution (if ever)?

I'd pay at least $10 for it, even if it was a buggy mess.

But these are not the same thing. Much rather, the inclusion of iMessage in iChat would be pretty darn valuable IMO.

I agree with what most people are saying here, get iChat + iMessage + FaceTime all into one app! Heck, throw PhotoBooth in there too while you're at it!

I love Adium, but if Apple made this iMessageChat app I might think of actually using it!

Ok, I'll use it!

So, Messages just broke on my Mac Mini 10.7.3. I put it to sleep last night, now it starts, but I can't get into preferences or do anything else. All my accounts have been deleted and I can't add a new one, it's just greyed out. Also in services it says "no services apply". Anyone else with this problem?
