iMessage phone number question

Hi there,

So currently I have an iPhone but I want to experiment with Android in the near future. Currently I have a 3G iPad 4 and a MacBook, so I still want to use iMessage. Since I will be selling off my iPhone, is there any way that I can keep my cell phone number on my Apple ID so people can reach me? Can I perhaps put the SIM in the iPad to work around this?

No.
The sim needs to be active and inside your iphone to use that sims phone number to send and receive imessages.
You can use email instead.

for iMessage, just use an email address. you use your phone number for SMS.
