I have an iPod touch with an iMessage account setup, and Palm(HP) Pre.

If someone with an iPhone sends me a text/iMessage, where will it go? Phone surely?

iMessage will detect what devices you have are iMessage compatible. In this case your iPod Touch. Sensing that, when they message you using your phone number, it will go as regular text. However, if they use your email to message you, you will get it as a free message on iMessage.

I don't mean to step on jav6454's toes, but here's a clearer answer:

The iMessage will go only to the iDevice.

Only :apple: devices have iMessage capability. Welcome to the walled garden effect. On the fair side, BBM is Blackberry only. I think it should be that way for what it's worth.

Who wants to talk to a guy with a Blackberry anyhow? :D

I understand this. I just wasn't sure how it would work if my iDevice and phone were different. Like how would an iPhone sending a message decide whether to send an iMessage to my iPod or send a text to my phone.

that will only happen if the person sends the text to the email that the user has set up on his/her ipod touch. if it is sent to their phone number, it will go to the palm pre

if you've only got an iPod Touch then you can only get an iMessage to an email address. iMessage won't associate your phone number with that device.
