iMessage text history on iPhone & iPad not syncing

I remember Apple promoting iMessage as software that will let you "start a conversation on one device, and pick it up on another one".

How can I pick up on a conversation if the text history isn't syncing between devices? Anyone else have this problem?

Go into settings on both devices, into the message section. Tap 'receive at'. Tap 'caller id'. Enter your me.com address or whatever you're using for email. Do this on both devices. Now you're synced! But only if the person who's texting you texts your email address and NOT your phone number.
