I have a friend who just got an iPhone 4S, as did I. We both turned on iMessage. When I text him apparently all my messages are mixed together, with some blue bubbles reflecting iMessages and other bubbles green meaning they are an SMS. As far as I know this is how it is supposed to work.

However, on my phone all of his SMS messages show up as one chat, and his iMessages show up as a separate chat. Both chats are labeled with his name and point to the same contact entry, but one refers to his phone number (SMS) and the other to his email address (iMessages).

As far as we can tell both our settings are the same on our phones. Has anyone else experienced this, and/or have any idea how to solve it? I would really love to merge the conversation threads together on my phone.

Settings> Messages> Receive At> Caller ID

1. You and your friend need to change your Caller ID to be your email address (not your phone number).

2. You and your friend need to clear all current conversations, then begin a new conversation. When sending a message, select the email address as place to send the message, and he needs to do the same.

I think it depends on what email address you have iMessage going to or the Caller ID...
