guys - if i turn imessage off on my phone, will people sending me text messages (both from android or iphones) be able to tell if a message was delivered or read

thx

Obviously, if you turn off iMessage, your messages will be sent/received as text. It will not show as delivered or read at all. You can turn off read receipt for everyone or specific recipient (in message thread info) in the Message settings. iMessage uses data so these messages would not be counted towards your text plan.

btw where is the read receipt setting
To turn off for everyone, Settings>Messages>Send Read Receipts>off

To turn off for specific person, in the Message app, go into the message thread of that person, tap on their contact at the top and select “Info” and turn off “Sent Read Receipts”

I was going to post a seperate thread for this (and maybe I still will), but I really wish iMessage had an “unsend” option. Most other messenger apps these days have it. I’m sure we’ve all sent a message to the wrong person by mistake or simply changed our mind about a message at some point.

Since iMessage can tell if a message has been read, if it hasn’t been it could even disappear entirely so the user never knows it was sent. Otherwise it could simply show an “unsent” bubble in place of the message.

Do other messengers have this? I use WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger on a daily basis, and if either of them have an unsend feature that's news to me!

don't see the send read receipts option at all under Settings>Messages>

Then you must be running a reallllly old version of iOS or something. It's a toggle switch.
