Mine are still out of order on my iphone as well. I updated my phone and my partner's phone to the newest IOS in hopes it would fix. Still out of order. Glad apple decided to focus on quality this year!

The small fix isn't the thing that will actually resolve this issue (Messages in the Cloud) which is due out later this year.

am not using icloud with messages, but (at least with one person), on my mac (she's on an android phone), her messages continue to show out of order...

So when it used to work correctly 100% of the time before "Messages in the Cloud" was a thing....?

Whats the point of releasing this update then if it does absolutely nothing?

I bet it fixes a slightly different issue that presents itself to you as the same visually.

The real fix is when messages in the cloud goes live, which hopefully is soon (it's in the current BETA). For all I know the update you posted merely lays the framework into the system for what is to come.

This is still out of order. Is this really happening in 2018? Isn’t there some code that can put messages in chronological order?

But joking aside, ios has gotta be the only program these days that would not be able to sort messages by time sent/received. Am I expecting too much from the wealthiest tech company in the world? Do android messages come out of order as well?

on my phone, all is well, but on my mac, this continues to happen; apparently, only with conversations with people on android phones...

Not sure what they broke on this as its worked flawlessly for years, now randomly it starts on iOS when the Mac is sleeping, restarting iOS may fix it there but Mac then out of order, sometimes both, restarting seems to fix it for a while.

Maybe its the transition to the new iCloud messages but if so someone needs their head to roll...I'm actually missing stuff as a newer message comes in but is placed above a longer, earlier one that fills the screen, so the newer one is immediately out of view... Grrrrr

messages is a mess on my mac (but i've got it working at present). after an hour or so of: rebooting. trying to sign out of it. trying to sign back in; seeing every last message from each contact only. seeing no messages. endless beachballs (but not needing a force-quit, suggesting some sort of sync issue... further suggested by an 'every 5 seconds' pop-op of 'imagent quit unexpectedly').

then, after 4 or 5 attempts to sign in, now all is well... for now....

So you just simply restart and try, restart and try?

i restarted about 4 times. i was finally able to sign out of imessages; then, after 4 or 5 tries (with a red-texted 'unable to sign in' message), i was in... and messages started to work again. (i also did some screaming & cursing, which might have helped).

i've sent numerous reports to apple about this (am doing my beta work)

Did you log out then restart and each time sighn in or just restart where was sighned in?

i just restarted my mac a few times. i kept trying to disable messages, but on reboot, i'd be signed in again. finally, i was signed out, and, after repeated tries, was signed back in... and then everything worked (and continues to work). not sure what happens if i were to reboot (and am in no mood to find out).

EDIT: it's a nightmare, really. i rebooted (for a different reason), and am back to the 'imagent quit unexpectedly' window every few seconds, and messages not working correctly.

hoping today (tuesday 13th) brings a beta with a fix...!

EDIT EDIT: deleting the "com.apple.imagent.plist" file in my users preferences (and rebooting) seems to, at least, keep that endless error message from popping up...

EDIT EDIT EDIT: oops, spoke to soon; that pop-up error is back. but 2 hours later, am signed back in, and messages works on my mac.

My partner spent an hour+ with a blue shirted Genius to fix this issue. The ’ol wipe and restore “fixed” it temporarily but it’s back.

Seems to be better lately on my iPhone - out of order messages were a major issue for the past month or so. Still some annoying call related issues though. Also, battery life on iOS 11 is still horrendous. That's another story though.

Oh well, at least messages are working across the board for me now.

Last 24hrs or so have brought a spate of transient "Not Delivered" warnings, most of which go away within a second. However I now have one message on my Mac showing Not Delivered for about 5mins, but it is Read on my iPhone, two subsequent messages are Delivered on both devices...I guess this is a side-effect of their transition to iCloud Messages (not sure what that is as iMessage was "cloudy" before - sharing status across devices)...or maybe I'm looking back with majorly rose-tinted spectacles... :-(

For giggles I just restarted Messages on the MBP and now the Not Delivered message has moved out of sequence to be the last message...getting laughable TBH...
