Hi all,

Got a problem that so far has me stumped so hoped someone might have a solution.

I've got a Mac Mini that I share with someone else; it has two user accounts, and each user account has its own iTunes library with that users's own Apple ID logged in to the store. So far so good.

The problem that has arisen however is that we'd both like to be able to purchase and immediately download films and TV programmes from the iTunes Store using our respective user accounts. Note that I'm not talking about downloading past purchases using iTunes in the Cloud (hereafter ‘iTitC’): that's subject to the oft-discussed one-Apple-ID-per-device and 90-days-between-changes limitations. What I'd like to achieve is the old-fashioned way of doing things before iTitC was introduced: click ‘buy’ on something and it starts downloading to one's own iTunes library – no fuss, no complications.

The problem is that at some point in recent years Apple seemed to switch off the immediate downloading of film/TV purchases. This means that the only way of downloading a video straight after buying it is to either:
  • Go to one's purchase history and download from there; or
  • Have automatic downloads enabled
…both of which require the Apple ID to be enabled for iTitC, which can only be done for one user account. Furthermore, the automatic downloads option isn't really what we want either because the point of that is to automatically download purchases made on other devices. We're just looking for a way to immediately download purchases made within that instance of iTunes like it used to work years ago.

Thanks in advance for any input you can offer!
