in the Lakers' regional broadcast territory, which includes Southern California, Hawaii, and parts of southern Nevada.
Why is this still a thing? I don’t watch sports at all, but I’ve always wondered why they still restrict games by region.

the user needs to have an AVP in the listed territories using something that the content provider participates in, or their direct service.

otherwise wait until the 11th for it to be out. am i wrong in thinking that the people capable of watching the live broadcast probably isn't that big of a number? i guess it's big enough for anyone to go through this trouble, otherwise why bother.

Don't know how much Apple is spending to achieve this. But don't think there will be many Vision Pro owners who will be viewing this feed. Apple should consider expanding availability of the device and lower its price. Anyway good for those having a Vision Pro and wanting to see this.

The article says that "game replays" will be available in other markets after a delay. I misinterpreted that to mean selected replays, but Apple's website says that it actually refers to the full game. It'll be a good way for me and other AVP users to see how well it works for sporting events like this at no additional cost.

Well this is the thing. If it’s anything like having a front row seat at the actual game, then for me even as a non NBA fan it might be a reason to try it out. Good seats at live sports events are very expensive, and a way to providing the best possible experience in a new way is valuable.

So will I be able to watch it without a Spectrum account? I'm not in LA area.
From the article: “Viewers will need Spectrum internet or a provider with a package that includes Spectrum SportsNet.

For Apple Vision Pro users in other areas, Apple Immersive replays and highlights will be available nationwide and in select international markets where the Vision Pro is available (Canada, China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan will not have access). The first game replay will be available on Sunday, January 11. Replays are watchable by any Apple Vision Pro user with a free NBA ID.”

I'm not into sports at all yet love my 2nd gen AVP so I might actually check this out to see how the experience is. If Heated Rivalry gets me into hockey, this might get me into basketball

I get all the dunking on this for how limited in scope and appeal it is, but it's a first effort and I applaud it.

This sort of thing could be very cool and it has to start somewhere.
First effort on a product that came out 24 months ago, this whole product feels like something that was too far in development to cancel

I'm not disagreeing about the AVP hardware and where we are in the cycle of that, no question.

I still think there is value in exploring what's possible here on the content side for hopefully some next steps with this general concept.

Why hasn't this been happening for every game? I would pay for courtside AVP experiences. This seems like something Apple advertised but has not moved forward on at all.

I'm mostly interested in the presentation of the game in Vision Pro. Since I'm a Laker fan who lives outside LA, I have no hope of watching these games live in spatial even if I had a Vision Pro. I'm assuming they're using BlackMagic's Ursa Cine Immersive camera, which is built for spatial 3D as used in Vision Pro and wasn't available until 9 months ago. Apple started doing seminars for spatial creators earlier this summer. What was a trickle of content - much of it jerryrigged - should become a more consistent flow over time.

Apple needs to host viewing parties or pop-up's to demo the tech to get people interested and advertise the fuxx out of this during the game.
Yeah but just how would those "viewing parties" look? 🤔

Trigger warning: AI created image - with people on both sides of the bar! 😂
Darn those goggle heads! Wandering all around the bar! 🍻
