I rather like it but it's so buggy it's ridiculous. I made a movie, shut off all original audio and had a song play over it. When exported, it would have patches of the original audio here and there. I had to re-import that file into imovie, mute it, then add my mp3 track again. It wasn't the most elegant way of doing it.

Have spent the last couple of days playing with iMovie 09. It has some nice effects and features that iMovie HD 06 didn't have (I refused to use 08). The main complaint with 09 is that there is no real timeline where you are able to alter the sound volume on music tracks as you could do with precision on 06. For the moment I'll carry on with 06 until I understand FCP.

I do agree with you.I also have to say that I am giving a chance iMovie09.
It is much better, for average user, then 08 but is not what I would like to have as only one to use.
I do use FCX and I am far away from calling myself an expert, but I do work sometime with iMovie 06 HD then transfer to FCX to polish final version of the video. So far my observation of iMovie 09 are:
1. lost of quality of the picture after applying effects like color correction and specially image stabilization. I did not expect from thereof effect to perform miracles like on commercial about product, but at least 50% better performance and 0 picture quality lost.
Definitely iMovie 09 has too many bugs and I hope they will be fixit soon-very soon!
I have to give credit to Apple to give us better product but I also hope that the next one will be much better and release when is 100% ready.
Never will be product loved by everyone, but I wish one day will be, one love by most of us.

Zero picture quality lost for image stabilization? Only in your dreams.

I haven't played with it yet, but isn't there some control to tell it how much stabilizationit should apply. Toy with that see what the differences are.

Thank you.
Yes I did and you can only adjust zoom, because with every stabilization process image must be zoom in, so you do not see picture jumping out of frame.
Life without dreams ? No way ! I can give up my :apple:, but not my dreams- ever.

iMovie 9 vs iMovie 6

I prefer iMovie 6 with plugins from www.geethree.com. Pick whatever plugins you like and install. Very easy to use and a lot of fun. I can't afford Final Cut, so geethree is the next best thing. My movies have come out great.
