After procastinating long enough I finally bought an iMac so I could mess about with home movies.

My first attempt is to take all the film and stills from a recent snowboarding trip and compile into a 20 minute film.

The first 5 minutes is done - its the intro!! - but now I am starting to wade through the film and I need some assistance.

There are a couple of tumbles that look good - but I would love to slow down, and reverse them etc

I am therefore looking for a plugin that provides a number of useful effects.

PS I am running 8.0.1 on Leopard on a 4GB iMac with a 2nd 20" monitor

iMovie 08 is an absolute atrocity.
Horrible and useless for anyone trying to do real video editing.
With iMovie 6, all of that stuff is easy.

I am finding iMovie 08 quite intuitive to use - just lacks the effect. I will give HD6 a try and see how it goes.

Can I just migrate over my existing 08 project?

You won't be able to open Imovie '08 in Imovie '06 (HD). Furthermore, I'm not aware of the availibility of these effects in Imovie. I think this requires the more extensive Final Cut Express or even Studio...
